Mazdak Tavassoli is a distinguished Iranian musician, educator, and researcher with extensive expertise in traditional and ritual music. Born in 1984 in Tehran, he holds a Master’s Degree in Music from the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Tehran, and has pursued a Ph.D. specializing in ritual and sacred music traditions.
With a deep passion for both performance and education, Mazdak has been teaching music since 2003, instructing students of all levels in Setar, Tanbur, Oud, and a variety of percussion instruments. His dedication to mentorship extends to university-level teaching, where he trains the next generation of musicians in both theoretical and practical aspects of music.
As an accomplished performer, Mazdak has collaborated with renowned ensembles such as Tahoor, Moj-e No, Khoshin, Tehran Orchestra, Damoon, Cherikeh, Samar, and Zendeh Pil, showcasing his artistry both domestically and internationally. His contributions to the music industry also include recording for multiple albums as a featured instrumentalist and curating musical events. He serves as the Secretary of the First National Student Folk Music Festival (2024), further demonstrating his commitment to promoting and preserving cultural heritage.
Mazdak’s achievements include securing second place at the prestigious Dalahoo Tanbur Festival and participating in multiple editions of the Fajr Music Festival, one of Iran’s most significant music events.
