The Setar is a traditional Iranian long-necked, pear-shaped string instrument, crafted typically from walnut or mulberry wood. Featuring 25 to 28 adjustable gut frets and four strings, each serves a unique tonal role:
The first string (from bottom up), known as the White String, is made of steel.
The second string, or Yellow String, is crafted from brass or bronze.
The third and fourth strings vary in tuning—often an octave apart or to different tonal centers.
A key instrument in Persian classical music, the Setar is ideal for solo performance, improvisation, and ensemble accompaniment.
Located in Richmond Hill, Melorin Music School offers private Setar lessons and group instruction for all levels and ages. Lessons are available in 30, 45, or 60-minute formats, both in-person and online.
