Setar Lessons in Richmond Hill

The Setar is a traditional Iranian long-necked, pear-shaped string instrument, crafted typically from walnut or mulberry wood. Featuring 25 to 28 adjustable gut frets and four strings, each serves a unique tonal role:

  • The first string (from bottom up), known as the White String, is made of steel.

  • The second string, or Yellow String, is crafted from brass or bronze.

  • The third and fourth strings vary in tuning—often an octave apart or to different tonal centers.

A key instrument in Persian classical music, the Setar is ideal for solo performanceimprovisation, and ensemble accompaniment.
